What makes it 65% Kids-Friendly: Kids eight and older can tackle most routes and enjoy geology signs, but younger children are restricted to short rim walks, there are no guardrails in spots, and no play areas or stroller paths.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for the easy overlook trail, a short break and photos without tiring younger children.
Great Gorge Scenic Overlook Trail:
A flat 1-hour loop with several safe viewing platforms over the rapids.
Tip: Wear sturdy shoes and carry younger kids in a hiking carrier instead of a stroller.
Upper Great Gorge Trail:
A former railway bed trail that runs 2 hours round-trip along the rim.
Tip: Bring snacks and pause at interpretive signs to keep older kids engaged.
Ranger-Led Gorge Hike:
Mid-May to October guided tours explore hidden rapids and geology.
Tip: Call ahead to reserve a spot; check age restrictions and bring insect repellent.

Very beautiful trail, lots of detours to view the water.

One of the most scenic trails that we’ve ever been on. Perfect for a long walk or bike ride. We rode a rented city bike up to the Whirlpool State Park from Goat Island. Parts are gravel and parts are a concrete sidewalk depending on which way you go. You could stay on the sidewalk all the way if you wanted though.

Parts of the trail are strewn with rubble from the rocks above but otherwise is a wide easy path. While the views and trail are nice, there are piles of trash, liquor and beer containers, graffiti and is overall quite dumpy. the...

First time stopping to see the Niagara Gorge View, and it was so beautiful! We went in the peak of fall to see the foliage, and it did not disappoint. The water is extremely blue and is beautiful to see, especially with the fall colors in the trees! There are plenty of different trail entrances that have stairs that lead you down, but be aware there are a lot of stairs! So if you find stairs to be...

Amazing views! You can get really close to Niagara Falls this way. There are some stairs to go down. There comes a point where there is an upper and lower trail. I took the lower but they both seem to have beautiful views. The lower trail is very narrow and potentially dangerous. There comes a point where you come to a building that has some concrete stairs. If you go past the building and a platf...
Spring can be muddy—wear waterproof shoes. Summer trails run from sunrise to sunset; bring sun hats. Fall brings colorful leaves but cooler temps—dress in layers. Trails may close or be icy in winter.
