What makes it 85% Solo-Friendly: The park gives a solo traveler easy, low-cost access to jogging loops, fishing spots, bird-watching and winter sports, and it is generally safe and uncrowded, but no public transit reaches it directly.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for solo trip: This gives you time to complete the paved loop, spot wildlife, and try an activity like fishing or model-airplane flying.
Jog or Cycle the Paved Loop:
Circle the flat asphalt path that skirts the reservoir.
Tip: Start early to catch waterfowl at the shore and avoid other cyclists.
Birdwatching and Nature Photography:
Scan the shoreline and woodland edges for ducks, geese, and songbirds.
Tip: Bring binoculars and a telephoto lens; dawn is the best time.
Model-Airplane Flying:
Fly RC planes in the dedicated field from dawn to dusk.
Tip: Buy your $50 annual permit at the park office before your first flight.
Cross-Country Skiing or Snowshoeing:
Glide across groomed fields and trails in winter.
Tip: Check snow conditions and bring wax for skis or extra traction for snowshoes.
Fishing at the Reservoir:
Cast from shore for bass and panfish.
Tip: Carry a valid NY fishing license and set up near quiet coves.

Beautiful area but easier walking down than going up.

Huge hill great for sledding. I was here in March so there was no snow but I can tell this would be a legendary hill for sledding. Great memories in the making. The view over the reservoir is pretty impressive as well.

I would host absolutely any event possible at the warming house here. It is beautiful, convenient, spacious & a perfect location. It can be opened completely or enclosed. Working fireplace, clean & large bathrooms.

Walking the elevated pathway provides an amazing view of the surrounding area and seeing the enormity of the project is hard to believe when you are walking or running it. The lodge and the main parking lot are on two separate roads and are not attached by a sidewalk which is a bit odd... didn't get to see the inside of the building yet

I was here for a Soccer game. Decent field but no bathroom or port a potty. I saw people peeing in the brush. Also, no garbage. I am a firm believer that noone should litter and was disappointed that there wasn't a trash can.
In summer, visit at sunrise for calm waters and bring insect repellent. In winter, use the warming hut by the sledding hill and layer up for skiing or sledding.
