What makes it 82% Kids-Friendly: Kids gain a modern playground, wide fields for soccer and sledding, plus flat paths for bikes; parents must supervise near open water and pack gear because rental equipment and lifeguards are absent.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Gives time to explore the playground, picnic, and try a short nature trail without tiring younger kids.
Playground break:
Let kids burn off energy on swings, slides, and climbing structures.
Tip: Visit early to avoid crowds and bring sun hats in summer.
Nature-trail scavenger hunt:
Walk the 0.6-mile loop looking for pinecones, leaf types, and wildlife.
Tip: Print a simple checklist and carry snacks for a mid-hike break.
Family picnic at shelter:
Reserve a pavilion with tables and grills for a group meal.
Tip: Book online at ReserveAmerica.com at least a week in advance.
Softball or soccer game:
Use open fields or reserve a diamond for a friendly match.
Tip: Bring your own balls; diamond reservations cost $50/day.
Seasonal sledding & skating:
In winter, sled the groomed hill and skate on the natural ice rink.
Tip: Check ice conditions with the park office and bring warm gloves.

Beautiful area but easier walking down than going up.

Huge hill great for sledding. I was here in March so there was no snow but I can tell this would be a legendary hill for sledding. Great memories in the making. The view over the reservoir is pretty impressive as well.

I would host absolutely any event possible at the warming house here. It is beautiful, convenient, spacious & a perfect location. It can be opened completely or enclosed. Working fireplace, clean & large bathrooms.

Walking the elevated pathway provides an amazing view of the surrounding area and seeing the enormity of the project is hard to believe when you are walking or running it. The lodge and the main parking lot are on two separate roads and are not attached by a sidewalk which is a bit odd... didn't get to see the inside of the building yet

I was here for a Soccer game. Decent field but no bathroom or port a potty. I saw people peeing in the brush. Also, no garbage. I am a firm believer that noone should litter and was disappointed that there wasn't a trash can.
In summer, apply insect repellent before hitting trails. In winter, wear waterproof boots and check warming hut availability near the sled hill.
