Kids find the water-and-ball trick exciting, but parents must guard them from passing cars, and there are no playgrounds, toilets, or picnic tables to stretch a longer family visit.
Why 1–2 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: This allows time for multiple illusion activities and a short café break without rushing young children.
Pour water uphill:
Pour water from a bottle at the marked zone and watch it seem to flow uphill.
Tip: Bring a lightweight water bottle and do this on the flatter section for best effect.
Race toy cars:
Let the kids race small toy cars or balls up the slope.
Tip: Use smooth plastic balls or toy cars and mark a start line with chalk for fair races.
Neutral-gear car trick:
Pull your handbrake and shift to neutral to see the car roll “uphill.”
Tip: Choose a quiet time to avoid holding up other drivers. Stay inside the car and supervise kids from a safe distance.
Visit Mystic 3° café:
Stop next door for pumpkin-roll cake and coffee while kids explore the garden arch.
Tip: Order two cakes to share and ask to sit outside for views of Hallasan.

It's a optical illusion.. You feel road is steep but it's a illusion. Car /bus will move on with the engine off.

It's really really boring in the conventional sense but watching people try to roll cans and bottles down the hill with cars parked in neutral rolling backwards was hilarious. Definitely worth a stop if you want to see how boring it actually is

This is a short segment of road (about 50 to 80 m long, with signs indicating start and end) which appears to go uphill (optical illusion). Hence, a rolling can or car in neutral gear will seem to "roll uphill". Several cars stopped on the road, switched on hazard lights, and then either rolled forward/backward up the hill. One has to be very careful as there is traffic on the road.

Mysterious Road in Jeju, explored in February, was a fascinating encounter with an optical illusion of nature. Despite its seemingly ordinary appearance, this sloping road challenged the laws of gravity, creating an intriguing and mystifying experience. The illusion of objects rolling uphill defied logic, giving rise to a sense of wonder and curiosity. Even in the winter chill, witnessing this pec...

Took us a few rounds to test out the mysterious road phenomenon. There are signs on both sides of the road saying the Mysterious road starts here. It is not a very long stretch and one could try out this optic illusion using a bottled water or turning off the engine of the car at neutral gear to see the car/bottle going upwards on the uphill slope. Pretty cool. Highly recommend the Mystic Cafe whi...
