Couples can enjoy the uphill roll together, snap playful photos, and walk to the nearby café for coffee, yet the roadside setting and brief activity limit romance time.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: Allows time to test illusions, take photos, and relax at the nearby café
Drive the gravity stretch:
Shift into neutral on the marked 50–80 m section to watch your car roll “uphill.”
Tip: Find the white lines marking the zone; ensure flat road and minimal traffic before shifting
Uphill water trick:
Pour water or roll a small bottle to see it flow against gravity on the slope.
Tip: Use a clear bottle for best visibility; kneel at the road edge to film the effect from below
Capture romantic photos:
Pose by the Mysterious Road sign with rolling hills framing your shot.
Tip: Visit during golden hour for warm light; use a wide-angle lens to emphasize the slope
Relax at Mystic 3° café:
Enjoy coffee, pumpkin-roll cake and panoramic views of Hallasan peak.
Tip: Call ahead on weekends to reserve a window seat; share a slice for two

It's a optical illusion.. You feel road is steep but it's a illusion. Car /bus will move on with the engine off.

It's really really boring in the conventional sense but watching people try to roll cans and bottles down the hill with cars parked in neutral rolling backwards was hilarious. Definitely worth a stop if you want to see how boring it actually is

This is a short segment of road (about 50 to 80 m long, with signs indicating start and end) which appears to go uphill (optical illusion). Hence, a rolling can or car in neutral gear will seem to "roll uphill". Several cars stopped on the road, switched on hazard lights, and then either rolled forward/backward up the hill. One has to be very careful as there is traffic on the road.

Mysterious Road in Jeju, explored in February, was a fascinating encounter with an optical illusion of nature. Despite its seemingly ordinary appearance, this sloping road challenged the laws of gravity, creating an intriguing and mystifying experience. The illusion of objects rolling uphill defied logic, giving rise to a sense of wonder and curiosity. Even in the winter chill, witnessing this pec...

It is not a very long stretch and one could try out this optic illusion using a bottled water or turning off the engine of the car at neutral gear to see the car/bottle going upwards on the uphill slope. Pretty cool. Highly recommend the Mystic Cafe whi...
