The park has shaded benches, free water, jogging paths, weekly organic market and a café, so a solo visitor can relax or exercise easily; limited security staff at night reduces score.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for solo trip: This gives you time to wander the gardens, relax at the café, and explore the herb patch without rushing.
Wander the tree-lined paths:
Follow the main walkways shaded by plane and pine trees.
Tip: Start at the north entrance for the best light and cooler morning air.
Relax under the plane trees:
Settle on a bench with your book or laptop.
Tip: Use the free Wi-Fi from the café-bar if you need internet.
Explore the Cretan herb garden:
Smell and touch native herbs like oregano and sage.
Tip: Visit mid-morning when aromas are strongest.
Shop at the farmers’ market:
Buy local honey, cheeses, and fruits three days a week.
Tip: Market days are Monday, Tuesday, and Friday; come early for fresh produce.
Enjoy a coffee at the café-bar:
Grab a single-person espresso or pastry.
Tip: Order at the counter and take your cup to a shaded table outside.
Attend free summer concerts and film nights on the central stage. In winter, focus on the herb garden and woodland paths when events pause.

Walked through this park while strolling around the city. quite a nice change in scenery in comparison to the buildings all around. Best of all was having the shades and trees around to keep cool while it's sunny. it's a nice resting area

Gorgeous little spot with a fun playground, little bookshelf and a beautiful and well priced cafe, plenty of shade spots over the playground itself! Would definitely return and encourage others to do the same!

This park is little outside of the city center of Heraklion. There is enough place to sit and a cafe to buy drinks. However, the administration should plan to keep the lawn greenery. They charge 10 euro from each tourist from the hotel reservation. It is sad such a nice park is being neglected.
Φίλιππος Πετούσης
Situated between Dimokratias Street and Eleftherias Square (Freedom Square), extending over the “stuffed” Venetian trench, the park was named after Mayor Minas Georgiadis who was executed by the Germans on the 3rd of June 1942. You will see his bust on the central pathway. Today the park is the perfect place to enjoy a coffee or drink during the warm summer days and nights and you can also shop ...

Brilliant park in the city. If your looking for a bit of green in the city, this is definitely your place. The kids playground is well kept, so everything is in working order. There’s a cafe/canteen in the park too in case you want a drink, something to drink or don’t have kids. It’s definitely a nice place to go for a walk and relax for a bit.
