Playground, open lawn and free children’s workshops suit ages 3-12, and café sells snacks; yet some equipment is steep, stray dogs reported and no staff supervision, so attentive parents required.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: 2-3 hours lets kids play, explore gardens, visit the memorial, and grab snacks without rushing.
Playground Adventure:
Let kids use swings, slides and climbing frames in the southern playground.
Tip: Supervise near steep slides and bring a change of clothes for active play.
Herb Garden Exploration:
Walk to the small Cretan herb garden at the north entrance.
Tip: Encourage kids to smell and identify herbs; bring a notebook for drawings.
Picnic Under Plane Trees:
Choose a shaded bench by the flower beds for a family picnic.
Tip: Pack sandwiches and water; arrive before noon to secure a bench.
WWII Memorial Discovery:
Visit the monument to Battle of Crete casualties along the wooded path.
Tip: Read the inscriptions with older kids and discuss local history.
Snack Break at Café-Bar:
Enjoy ice creams, cold drinks or light snacks inside the park.
Tip: Budget around €2.50 per ice cream and €3 per drink; carry small change.
From May to September, check the park’s event calendar for free kids’ workshops and evening concerts.

Walked through this park while strolling around the city. quite a nice change in scenery in comparison to the buildings all around. Best of all was having the shades and trees around to keep cool while it's sunny. it's a nice resting area

Gorgeous little spot with a fun playground, little bookshelf and a beautiful and well priced cafe, plenty of shade spots over the playground itself! Would definitely return and encourage others to do the same!

This park is little outside of the city center of Heraklion. There is enough place to sit and a cafe to buy drinks. However, the administration should plan to keep the lawn greenery. They charge 10 euro from each tourist from the hotel reservation. It is sad such a nice park is being neglected.
Φίλιππος Πετούσης
Situated between Dimokratias Street and Eleftherias Square (Freedom Square), extending over the “stuffed” Venetian trench, the park was named after Mayor Minas Georgiadis who was executed by the Germans on the 3rd of June 1942. You will see his bust on the central pathway. Today the park is the perfect place to enjoy a coffee or drink during the warm summer days and nights and you can also shop ...

Brilliant park in the city. If your looking for a bit of green in the city, this is definitely your place. The kids playground is well kept, so everything is in working order. There’s a cafe/canteen in the park too in case you want a drink, something to drink or don’t have kids. It’s definitely a nice place to go for a walk and relax for a bit.
