Leafy walks, picnic spots, café and seasonal concerts create a pleasant low-cost date setting; however, small size and occasional crowds limit privacy, so it is nice but not a must-see.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: Couples can stroll paths, picnic, enjoy coffee, and visit the memorial without rushing.
Stroll tree-lined pathways:
Walk hand in hand under mature plane trees along the main north–south route.
Tip: Begin at the north entrance to catch morning light and avoid midday heat.
Picnic in the Cretan herb garden:
Spread a blanket beside aromatic herbs near the park’s north side.
Tip: Bring local cheese, bread, and wine from Heraklion markets.
Relax at the café-bar:
Sip coffee or iced drinks at the shaded terrace overlooking flower beds.
Tip: Try a Cretan pastry and arrive before 11 am for outdoor seating.
Attend summer cultural events:
Enjoy free concerts, dance shows, or open-air film nights on the central stage.
Tip: Check the Municipality of Heraklion website for current event dates.
Photo at the WWII memorial bust:
Visit the bronze bust of Mayor Minas Georgiadis and read the dedication plaque.
Tip: Use soft morning light for clearer portraits.
Spring brings wildflower blooms in the herb garden. Summer evenings host free events but paths can be hot at noon. Winter rains may leave trails muddy—wear sturdy shoes.

Walked through this park while strolling around the city. quite a nice change in scenery in comparison to the buildings all around. Best of all was having the shades and trees around to keep cool while it's sunny. it's a nice resting area

Gorgeous little spot with a fun playground, little bookshelf and a beautiful and well priced cafe, plenty of shade spots over the playground itself! Would definitely return and encourage others to do the same!

This park is little outside of the city center of Heraklion. There is enough place to sit and a cafe to buy drinks. However, the administration should plan to keep the lawn greenery. They charge 10 euro from each tourist from the hotel reservation. It is sad such a nice park is being neglected.
Φίλιππος Πετούσης
Situated between Dimokratias Street and Eleftherias Square (Freedom Square), extending over the “stuffed” Venetian trench, the park was named after Mayor Minas Georgiadis who was executed by the Germans on the 3rd of June 1942. You will see his bust on the central pathway. Today the park is the perfect place to enjoy a coffee or drink during the warm summer days and nights and you can also shop ...

Brilliant park in the city. If your looking for a bit of green in the city, this is definitely your place. The kids playground is well kept, so everything is in working order. There’s a cafe/canteen in the park too in case you want a drink, something to drink or don’t have kids. It’s definitely a nice place to go for a walk and relax for a bit.
