What makes it 65% Kids-Friendly: Kids can hunt for fossils, cross footbridges, and pose with public art, yet rough paths, lack of playground gear, and only seasonal restrooms add planning burdens for parents.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for a nature scavenger hunt, picnic, birdwatching and art poses without rushing younger children.
Nature scavenger hunt:
Walk part of the flat 6.5 km trail and look for leaves, feathers and ducks with a simple checklist.
Tip: Turn back at any point if kids get tired; pack clipboards and pencils.
Bridge exploration:
Cross two footbridges and watch small fish and frogs in the river below.
Tip: Bring a small magnifying glass for close-up viewing.
Picnic and play:
Use the picnic tables and nearby clearings for snacks and free play.
Tip: Pack local cheese, bread and juice; supervise children in open spaces.
Beginner birdwatching:
Spot bright warblers, woodpeckers and ducks along the riverbank.
Tip: Use a simple field guide; start early for the best sightings.
Interactive art pose:
Pose on empty pedestals next to the illuminated sculpture for fun photos.
Tip: Visit at dusk when the artwork lights up.

A little treasure just off highway 40 going east! It's hiding, but discovering it was amazing. It is absolutely beautiful. Lovely, well maintained trail follows the river. Scenery never ceases to amaze. Strategic view points take your breath away! So, I was definitely impressed with mother nature, quiet, peaceful, a must to explore!
Public restrooms open from May to October daily 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Trails get muddy in spring—wear boots. Fall foliage peaks late September.
