What makes it 76% Kids-Friendly: Kids like hunting wrought-iron signs, ice cream stops, and a brief Mozart museum. Persistent crowds, uneven cobblestones, and few toilets with child amenities cut some convenience.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time to spot guild signs, taste treats and rest without tiring young children.
Guild Sign Spotting:
Follow the hanging metal guild signs above the shops on Getreidegasse.
Tip: Turn it into a game: have kids count or sketch their favorite sign.
Mozartkugeln Tasting:
Try original marzipan-pistachio-nougat truffles at Café Fürst.
Tip: Let each child pick one flavor at €1.80 per ball.
Ice Cream Break:
Enjoy homemade ice cream or strudel in the garden seating at Café Getreidegasse.
Tip: Visit between May and October for fresh seasonal flavors.
Sausage Snack:
Grab a Käsekrainer or Leberkäsesemmel from nearby street vendors.
Tip: Order plain sausages if kids prefer milder flavors.

This is a very picturesque and quaint street filled with stores of every type, cafes and passages to parallel streets on both sides. Some passages lead into a courtyard, and we had the chance to visit Salzburg in Wintertime, thus finding several Christmas markets in these courtyards.

It's your classic Bavarian shopping area. A bit more expensive than normal shops but great place to wander around, especially at Christmas.
In summer, stop for ice cream in the café’s garden (open May–Oct). In winter, bundle up for quieter strolls and festive holiday lights in December.
