What makes it 67% Kids-Friendly: Kids love the 30-ft spray and tide-pool creatures, and the lookout fence gives basic safety, yet no lifeguards, restrooms, or shade mean close supervision and limited stay length.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Gives enough time to watch multiple eruptions, let kids explore tide pools, and enjoy a cliff-top picnic.
Watch the blowhole eruptions:
See seawater shoot up to 30 feet through the lava tube.
Tip: Visit at mid to high tide for stronger eruptions and bring a light rain jacket for sea spray.
Explore Halona Cove tide pools:
Walk down the rocky path to the cove and spot small fish and sea urchins.
Tip: Wear sturdy shoes and supervise kids closely on slippery rocks.
Family picnic overlooking the cove:
Enjoy a packed lunch or take-out from nearby food trucks on the cliffs above the beach.
Tip: Bring a blanket since there are no picnic tables and secure all trash to protect wildlife.
Wildlife watching:
Look for turtles and humpback whales offshore in season (Dec–Apr).
Tip: Bring binoculars and visit in winter for the best whale sightings.

Check for high tide when you go here. Unless it's high tide you won't see the blowhole steam. It's a nice stop at the lookout. You can also hike down to the spot if you want. There is limited parking but there was a police guiding us.

Beautiful little beach accessible from a trail on the side of the lookout. The rock walls surrounding the beach are very unique with almost Mars-like attributes. One of my favorite beaches on the island. Saw a sea turtle (:

We happened to be on Oahu during a very windy 4 days, and we ventured out to see the Diamond Head side of the island and to see the blowhole. It was AMAZING to see big waves, beautiful blue colors, and the water go through the blowhole and up maybe 100 feet!!! We also saw a couple of foolish people venture close to the opening. The water came out with the force of a fire hose!!!

Beautiful photo spot. Highly recommend. Worth a stop and a detour. To the right there is a little path that leads down to a small beach area with a cave. Highly recommend checking out both areas. Wear good shoes, watch your step if following path down to cave area.

This is a great place to stop and observe the beauty of nature. You have the chance to see whales out in the ocean playing. There is also the chance to see a sea turtle playing in the water as well. There is a beautiful beach area to climb down to and swim or snorkel in the clear water. There is a chance to observe the blowhole erupt, but it seems very erratic. Also there is a big area where pe...
Winter months (Nov–Mar) bring larger waves and whale sightings. Summer has calmer waters for tide-pooling but smaller blowouts.
