It commemorates his pivotal victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, where he famously lost his life. Construction of the monument began in 1807, and it was largely completed by 1816, funded by public subscription. Designed by architect Robert Burn, its unique appearance is...

We love this part of the city. It has incredible views all the way around. It’s an easy walk from the centre. It’s great for a picnic too. Currently the monument (may 2025) is being repaired so has scaffolding and isn’t accessible, but definitely worth a visit to the park anyway.
