What makes it 61% Baby-Friendly: Level paths, baby-change tables and highchairs help, but interior steps, no listed nursing room and lengthy spoken tours mean parents may need extra planning for infant comfort.
Why 1-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Allows time to tour the grounds, visit the gardens, and have a café break without rushing.
Stroll the pram-friendly grounds:
Follow level paths through lawns, woodland and coastal views.
Tip: Wear comfortable shoes and bring rain cover for the pram.
Explore the Japanese Garden:
Admire bonsai, Kyoto-style landscaping and dragon sculptures.
Tip: The greenhouse offers sheltered seating if it drizzles.
Picnic on the croquet lawn:
Spread a blanket near the castle for a family snack break.
Tip: Use nearby baby-changing facilities in the toilet block.
Café break at Mimi’s Little Bakehouse:
Highchairs and a children’s menu available.
Tip: Order small toddler portions and hot drinks for adults.

This castle is a jewel. It is beautifully preserved and is of a scale that feels like a real home. Tracy, our guide, was one of the best we have ever had. She is full of good information and presents very clearly. She also never makes you feel rushed on the tour.

I really enjoyed visiting Lauriston Castle! it’s such a beautiful and peaceful place with a fascinating history. I definitely recommend joining the guided tour; the guides are very knowledgeable and bring the house!

Lovely gardens. Great for a weekend walk. Parking is available but can be limited when busy. Nice little Mimi’s cafe for coffee and cakes.

About to the end of our jetlagged day trip (to keep us awake as long as possible), we stopped at Lauriston. Although it was closed, the grounds were open and fun to explore. Beautiful views, amazing vistas, and lush flora kept our cameras out. It was also quite peaceful, with almost no one there besides our group. It made for a nice last stop before ending our day.
In spring and summer, the Japanese garden blooms—carry sunscreen and a sunhat. In autumn, bring a pram rain cover for damp leaves. In winter, paths may be muddy—use waterproof boots.
