How Kids-Friendly is Haedong Yonggung Temple?

Children will like the 12 Zodiac statues and coin toss, yet 108 uneven steps, cliff edges, and no playground or stroller ramps mean parents must supervise closely; still doable for ages 5-12.

Considerations for visiting Haedong Yonggung Temple (with kids)

Positives:

  • Ocean views: Temple by the coast offers sea breezes and soothing wave sounds between halls.
  • Free admission: No entry fee lets kids explore without budget worries.

Challenges:

  • Steep steps: The 108 uneven stone steps can tire younger children quickly.
  • Peak-time crowds: Sunrise hours and weekends draw many visitors, leading to lines at photo spots.

Recommended visit duration: 2-3 hours

Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Gives families time to walk the steps, spot zodiac statues, toss coins, and stop for snacks at a relaxed pace.

Visited the temple on a weekday, there was fair amount of crowd but still peaceful to get good shots of the temple. It’s beautiful and calm and has the ocean front . I love the colorful lanterns placed here as it was buddhas birthday a week before we reached here. Do go early mornings or during sunsets

This temple is a truly unique experience. Perched right on the coast, the ocean view perfectly complement the beauty and serenity of the temple. The sound of the waves adds a calming element to the spiritual atmosphere. While it can get crowded, the stunning location and intricate details of the temple make it a must-visit in Busan. Allow at least an hour or two to explore the grounds and soak in ...

Visit: May 2025 An absolutely beautiful temple. The way it lines the coast provides an extraordinary view and the sounds of the waves are very calming. A great place, even if you aren't religious, but even better if you are (Buddhist). There's a lot of different areas to pray. It does get very crowded there, as it's a tourist attraction, but besides that it was great. Some food stalls as well, b...

What a beautiful temple! I came around 5pm - not crowded at all! You can find direct buses from the Busan bus station, it’s like an 1 hour and a half but it’s honestly worth it! By the sea, beautiful vibes. It’s an active temple so you’ll find monks praying which is amazing! Also lots of souvenir sellers and food stalls outside!

This temple was honestly beautiful. What really made it stand out wasn’t just the structure itself, but everything around it—the nature, the fresh sea air, the peaceful vibe. It felt like one of those places where you can just breathe a little deeper. Yeah, there were quite a few tourists around, but it didn’t feel packed or chaotic. The area’s pretty open, so people kind of spread out naturally. ...
