What makes it 90% Couple-Friendly: Rose beds, gazebo and café high tea create a romantic setting; easy riverside walk and picnic lawns suit date plans, but closing at dusk limits late evening ambience.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: Couples can stroll the gardens, relax by the Avon River and enjoy café treats without rushing.
Romantic Garden Walk:
Follow the 1 km Mona Vale Walk beside the Avon River through rose, iris and woodland gardens.
Tip: Start at the Homestead Café to grab coffee before your stroll.
Riverside Picnic:
Spread a blanket on the Mound or Mill Stream lawns for a private riverside picnic.
Tip: Visit at sunset for golden light and fewer visitors.
High Tea at the Homestead:
Indulge in finger sandwiches, scones and cakes in the late-19th-century homestead.
Tip: Book your table online in advance; service runs Wednesday to Sunday.
Copper-Domed Gazebo Photo Spot:
Capture the stained-glass and ornate copper dome of the 1990s-donated gazebo.
Tip: Use a wide-angle lens to include river views in your shot.

Beautiful gardens immaculately maintained. Delightful flora thoughtfully planted amongst older trees.

Just a beautiful place really. Amazing garden surrounded by the Avon river and lovely houses. Duck are very friendly too. Now the bath house is open again, it's even better. Lovey to stroll around and enjoy.

Really enjoyed the walk in this garden with everything blooming being Spring. Lots of close parking off Mona Vale Ave, cafe available part time, lots of seating dotted about, lovely river flowing through with lots of ducks and little bridges to cross. Hours open from 7am - 9pm in Summer, Winter 7am - 5.30pm. Fernery was my favorite and the stain glass gaebo, could easily spend a couple of hours lo...

At this time of year it's beautiful. So many spring flowers. The fernery is magic. Mulled wine at the café delicious 😋

A lovely place for a stroll. Benches are placed throughout the property, there is a café, and free, guided tours are offered some days (e.g., two Saturdays in May). I especially liked the Fernery, with its coolness and tranquility. People were enjoying a sunny autumn day on the café’s patio.
Visit November to May to see iris blooms in the Iris Garden and vibrant annual borders.
