Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Short family-friendly loops and a picnic keep the baby comfortable without long walks.
Short forest loop with carrier:
Walk 1–2 km of level trail near the car park while carrying your baby in a soft carrier.
Tip: Wear sturdy shoes; stop at scenic spots along the Waimakariri River for rest.
Picnic at covered BBQ:
Use the sheltered electric barbecues and picnic tables close to toilets.
Tip: Bring your own gas cylinder and a portable change mat for baby breaks.
Stroll through Te Ao Kōwhai food forest:
Explore the 2.6 ha planting of fruit and medicinal trees.

Gas BBQ allowed in designated areas. Good picnic area. No playground equipment area for little ones. There is a Pump Track and now A learner bike track with road signs to learn the Road rules for the Young ones.

One of the best finds in Christchurch. Excellent facilities for both walkers and bikers here. Great bbq and picnic areas, heaps of open space to relax in. Lots of parking and dog friendly. Had a great time here, highly recommend. Many different options of tracks to walk from short to long.

The new kids street sign area and pump track is so great. Fantastic for beginners and family mountain biking. My daughter had a wee scrape and the folks at Cycling The Dream provided us with a bandage from their big first aid box, which was much appreciated.

Best place for biking and tracking in Christchurch. Biking track is unique and nice. Forest is too cool and river side have also nice eye-catching points. Overall place is very good. Nice to go on walk with your pet and friends
In summer, pack sunscreen and insect repellent. In winter, wear waterproof layers as trails get muddy.
