There was a lot of changes happened after the earthquake and sadly the Cathedral Square is of the big change! It still lovely to go walk around the square and seeing the art works and old survival building and some new buildings.

Damaged by the earthquakes, renovation is ongoing - heard the works are on hold till the church identifys the hundreds of millions needed to finish the works. Hopefully the works will finish soon and the church gets opened for visitors in our life time

The Cathedral is under renovation. Around the square there are various billboards with information about history of the Cathedral. Very good
Summer Fridays host open-air markets around the square—sample local street food. In winter, weekday services offer a warm indoor refuge. Check market dates online before planning.
