A first-floor nursing room, diaper table and stroller-friendly ground exhibits help parents, yet there is no stroller rental and the tower or upper galleries need stairs, so timetable extra breaks and staff help.
Why 1–2 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Enough time to see ground-floor exhibits, stroll the garden, and use the nursing room without rushing.
Ground-Floor Exhibits:
Browse free history displays on Hokkaidō’s Meiji era in the main hall.
Tip: Use stroller-friendly routes to move smoothly between exhibits.
Garden Stroll:
Walk across the red-brick bridge and spot koi in the pond.
Tip: Pause on the lawn for quick play and family photos.
Nursing Room & Diaper Station:
Use the 1st-floor private nursing room with sink and hot-water dispenser.
Tip: Ask staff for the child fast track to guide you directly.
Volunteer-Guided Tour:
Join a free guide on the ground floor for building stories.
Tip: Let guides know your pace; they’ll pause for feeding or breaks.
Octagonal Tower Observation:
Climb to the 2nd-floor deck for panoramic city views.
Tip: Reserve in advance and carry your baby as there’s no elevator.

Spectacular. I've lived in Hokkaido for a few years. Exploring every direction. There is so much beauty here. The Hokkaidō Prefectural Government Office building or Red brick building has been renovated. The museum offers great insight into the history of Hokkaido. It's was a truly wonderful experience.

We visited the Former Hokkaido Government Office, affectionately known as the Red Brick Office, during our walk around Sapporo and were pleasantly surprised by how charming it was. It is a beautiful place that the garden portion is opens to public. I think~ The garden itself is beautiful too with large trees, flower beds and couple ponds. I can see people sitting on the bench throughout the park next by the water or under the trees! The tulip is blooming at the time when I visit it. Great place for some nice photos!

I came here in summer 2023 and the government office building was under construction. And the front was covered. This time I got to see the real building which was very beautiful but still inside was under renovation until July 2025. Giving me more reasons to come back to visit. There’s a spot on the left side facing the building. A bridge on the pond which reminded me of Monet’s painting.
