A solo traveler can jog, photograph cherry blooms, study in the free library, or reserve tennis courts; the park is safe by day, but minimal lighting and patrols after dark lower the ideal rating a little.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for solo trip: Allows time to stroll gardens, visit the library, and photograph ponds at a relaxed pace.
Walk the Western-style Rose Garden:
Circle the central fountain through rose beds and manicured lawns.
Tip: Go early to snap photos without crowds and catch dew on petals.
Explore the Japanese-style Ponds:
Visit Kochogaike and Shobuike ponds to see koi and irises.
Tip: Bring a zoom lens for close-up shots of fish and flowers.
Read or Work at Tsuruma Central Library:
Use free Wi-Fi and quiet reading rooms in the historic library building.
Tip: Check opening hours (9:00–16:30) and avoid Mondays.
Hunt Pokémon Go at the Fountain Tower:
Spin Pokéstops at the Poké Ball–shaped tower and hatch eggs on walking loops.
Tip: Carry a power bank to keep your phone charged.

A dreamland! Beautiful around all the seasons, day and night, evening or morning and, even in rainy days Tsuruma park never fails to amaze me. As my campus is just beside, the Nagoya University Hospital, almost every day I cross the park, enjoy the quiet ambience and filling myself up with peace! Oh, try to come during sakura season. One of the best sakura in Japan blooms here. 🌸🪻🌷

Clearly labelled sections with different flowers blooming at different times of the year. It’s a nice walk around, prob best early morning or in the evening when the sun isn’t so strong.

Visited on Monday 7 Apr 2025. Sakura in shades of white and pink in full bloom besides Tulips! Lively atmosphere even it’s Monday. Enjoyed Hanami activities.

We went at the end of March 2025, which was unfortunately a little too early for the full bloom. Regardless, it was still pretty and I could tell that this would be a good location for cherry blossom viewing. They cordon off the hanami areas, where many people will be picnicking. However, they leave a trail in the middle so that you can still walk through and enjoy being in the midst of the flowe...

Went there for 花見 (flower viewing 2025). Although the place was filled with people the park was really nice. Definitely would go there again on a day with fewer people. It's a good spot for flower viewing.
