What makes it 66% Kids-Friendly: Kids over six can manage the gentle gravel path and observe insects, but there are no railings, shade, or full toilets, so parents must supervise and plan breaks off-site.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Time to walk the trail, picnic, and explore the fields without rushing.
Gentle Pampas Grass Trail:
Walk the 680 m wide gravel path through rolling silver grass.
Tip: Start at the visitor parking area and walk at a slow pace for kids to enjoy.
Nature Exploration & Insect Spotting:
Let children search for grasshoppers and butterflies in field clearings.
Tip: Bring a small magnifying glass and watch without stepping off the trail.
Family Picnic:
Spread a mat by the trail edge and enjoy lunch with mountain views.
Tip: Pack bento boxes and bring a low table or sturdy mat for comfort.
Wetlands Botanical Garden Visit:
Boardwalks through marshes with displays on local plants and birds.
Tip: Catch the hourly bus from the grass fields; buy tickets in advance online.
Susuki Autumn Festival:
Seasonal festival with traditional dances and fireworks.
Tip: Check festival dates online and arrive early for kids’ game stalls.

Beautiful area. It gets dark at 4pm in the mountains by early November so do t forget to have a sturdy jacket with you

Amazing spot - 100% recommend it was definitely one of the most amazing spots we saw around Hakone. The pictures don't do it justice - the grass fields with the forest and mountains in the background are simply splendid. You can only reach out by car so it was also not as crowded as the other popular places around Hakone.

Pretty scenic short route (probably about 30min return if you take your time) It was a dry, sunny day so not slippery at all. The route itself is slightly steep but nothing too challenging. Strollers definitely not recommended
Visit in late September to early November when the grass turns golden and the Susuki Festival lights up the fields at dusk.
