The 1920s décor, evening facade lighting, and reservation-only kaiseki dinner create a romantic mood, while the 1-hour size leaves time for a harbor stroll together afterwards.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: Time enough for a self-guided tour, second-floor exhibit and a kaiseki dinner without rushing.
Evening illumination stroll:
After 6 pm the Club’s half-timbered facade lights up until 10 pm.
Tip: Walk the garden paths or waterfront to capture romantic photos under soft Art Deco lights.
First-floor self-guided tour:
Explore the Art Deco sitting room and parlor with marble fireplace and grand piano.
Tip: Arrive at opening to enjoy quiet moments on velvet chairs before crowds arrive.
Second-floor Einstein & Hayashi exhibit:
See Einstein’s original guest suite, handwritten letter and Fumiko Hayashi manuscripts.
Tip: Buy tickets (¥150 per adult) on arrival to avoid waiting in line at peak hours.
Kaiseki-style dinner:
Dine on semi-Western kaiseki dishes like blowfish sashimi and baked curry rice.
Tip: Reserve a table by the fireplace in advance (5 pm–9 pm; last order 8 pm).
Mini-concerts in the parlor:
Enjoy occasional piano recitals or chamber-music events in the Art Deco parlor.
Tip: Check the Club’s website or call ahead to reserve seats for free or low-cover shows.

I came all the way to Japan, planned the trip to go to Kitakyushu, purposely booked a day tour that make a stop here so I can visit this historic place and try the baked curry– all that to be turned down upon entry with no explanation??? The day I visited, the nice host lady greeted me and my friend, asked if we’re here for lunch or the tour. We wanted to eat lunch first (it was around 14.00) and...

The Old Moji Mitsui Club is located on the right side of Mojiko Station across the street. Mojiko is lined with old-fashioned Western-style buildings centered around the first pier, and one of the closest ones to the station is the Old Moji Mitsui Club. It is even more famous because it is said that Einstein and his wife stayed here. The first floor is a restaurant, and the second floor exhibits 2...

You can pay ¥150 to visit the second story where you can see the room where Albert Einstein and his wife stayed as well as a large exhibit on the author Hayashi Fumiko. English translations are available for the exhibits on Einstein, but is very sparse for the rooms dedicated to Hayashi Fumiko. Her exhibit is very detailed and I was wishing I was more familiar with her work.

Before coming here, I didn't have any idea that Albert Einstein has been to Japan. Although Mojiko is visited by many Korean people, there is no Korean translations for visitors in this buildings or others. I was lucky to read Japanese and English. But you shouldn't ignore people from other nationalities who often visit the area. You have to take off your shoes if you want to see the second floor....
