What makes it 47% Kids-Friendly: School-age kids can paddle in shallow water and hunt pebbles, but the uneven descent, no lifeguard, no toilets with changing area, and full sun mean parents must supervise closely and bring gear.
Note: Caldera Beach is 47% Kids-Friendly. You may want to consider other Kids-Friendly Things to Do in Santorini for a more suitable experience.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Enough time for kids to play in shallow water, explore pebbles, and join a short snorkeling trip.
Shallow-water play:
Kids can paddle safely in the gently sloping seabed under tree shade.
Tip: Bring water shoes to protect little feet on pebbles.
Pebble and shell exploration:
Collect smooth volcanic pebbles and small shells along the shore.
Tip: Pack a small bucket and sieve for easier collection.
Tree-shaded picnic:
Set up snacks under the natural shade of pine trees.
Tip: Bring a pop-up tent or umbrella for extra sun protection.
Half-day snorkeling safari:
Board a boat to visit Red Beach and White Beach for guided snorkeling.
Tip: Children over 8 must wear a life vest; reserve spots in advance.
Junior scuba session:
Kids 8+ can try PADI Bubble Maker in calm shallow water.
Tip: Contact Santorini Dive Center to confirm age rules and book ahead.

We had a wonderful snorkeling experience here with Dimitris Kampanos from Dive in Action, a local organization championing the protection of the unique, beautiful and important Posidonia meadows. We learned so much about why the Posidonia is important (fish nursery, erosion control, carbon sink) and the threats (high speed ferries, anchoring) putting this magical habitat at risk! Highly recommend ...

More of a wild beach. Cool spot. Careful as choppy waves from bigger passing ships can bring the tide up briefly and wash away your things. Put them farther back or on a high rock. Enjoy!

Amazing beach to swim from, nice and quiet, great view of caldera, some shade also, clear blue green waters. Like the Grand Canyon with water

It is quite the climb back up after but the beach wasn’t too busy and very beautiful. If you’re not afraid of going a bit further at the buoy there is a big rock with plenty of fish which is for snorkelling if you can handle the waves.

A bit risky to walk down but very unique location, great view of caldera, but small beach.
Visit in May–June or September for mild temperatures and fewer crowds. In July–August, go early morning or late afternoon to avoid peak heat.
