Babies are allowed, yet stroller movement is hard, ground is bumpy, and there are no nursing rooms or changing tables, so a quick visit using a front carrier is the only practical option.
Note: Open Air Bazaar of Heraklion is 36% Baby-Friendly. You may want to consider other Baby-Friendly Things to Do in Heraklion for a more suitable experience.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Enough time to stroll stalls, sample foods, and rest with baby without rushing.
Fresh fruit tasting:
Let your baby see and smell fresh fruit before you taste.
Tip: Buy a small portion (€2–€3) and share slices.
Carrier stroll through stalls:
Explore market aisles with baby in a face-in carrier.
Tip: Avoid narrow sections at peak hour; keep carrier straps secure.
Rest break at nearby café:
Use café restrooms and seating to feed or change the baby.
Tip: Order a drink (€3–€4) to access facilities.
Visit early morning in summer to avoid heat and crowds; in winter the market opens by 9am with fewer visitors.

The Open Air Bazaar of Heraklion is open on Thursdays and Saturdays. It is worth visiting the area with vegetables, fruits, herbs, local cheese, olives which are very fresh and tasty at lower prices. Otherwise there are many cheap clothes and shoes of very poor quality.
ROBERT HARPER

For food lovers you will love this. Fresh, vibrant fruit, vegetables and fish, all local, all amazing quality. Watermelons the size of a dog. i wish i had taken pictures! There is also clothes, household goods and shoes to buy, a little bit chaotic, do not expect every stall has things in nice tidy racks, but enjoy the atmosphere.

Feels like an authentic local market. Everything is in Greek. Good for immersing in local culture, but not for looking for novelty.
