What makes it 78% Kids-Friendly: Wide, mostly flat paths let kids up to 12 do color hunts and tadpole spotting for free, but parents must supervise near unfenced ponds and accept that there is no playground or organized program.
Why 1–2 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: A 1–2 hour visit lets kids complete the color hunt, spot pond wildlife, and rest without rushing.
Rhododendron color hunt:
Let kids check off bloom colors (pink, purple, white, yellow) around all ponds.
Tip: Print the UVic bloom-color checklist and bring clipboards.
Pond-edge nature spotting:
Walk around a pond to find tadpoles, small fish, frogs and insects.
Tip: Bring a small magnifying glass and point out wildlife to the kids.
Bench snack break:
Use one of the shaded benches under rhodo trees for snacks and rest.
Tip: Pack water and fruit; plan a break every 20 minutes to keep energy up.
Big-flower photo fun:
Stand next to 6 ft rhododendron blooms for playful “you’re as tall as this bloom” photos.
Tip: Let each child pose next to a bloom for a souvenir snapshot.

The winding gravel paths, shaded by native trees and dotted with benches, make it ideal for slow walks, reading, or quiet reflection. It’s not manicured like a formal botanical garden; instead, it...

This place is amazing - so quiet and peaceful. The plantings are almost the opposite of Butchard - greens of all types vs flowers. When we went there were very few other visitors. Very nice for us but I hope that doesn't signify a lack of interest. Right now, the gardens are well maintained with excellent paths and occasional maps (essential as any useful landmarks are hidden by the greenery)

Nice green garden. Free entrance fee. Unfortunately when I visited, the person was smoking weed:( hope to be smoke free.
Visit mid-April to mid-May for peak rhododendron and azalea blooms. Winters are wet; bring rain jackets and waterproof shoes.
