What makes it 88% Kids-Friendly: Fenced shaded playgrounds, BBQ lawns and flat scooter paths suit ages up to 12, but open river edge requires constant supervision and no lifeguards, so score is not perfect.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for playground play, a riverside picnic and a short scooter ride without tiring younger kids.
Inclusive Playground:
Let kids climb nets, swing and slide in the fenced play area with sand surface and shade sails.
Tip: Visit late morning when sails block sun and supervise different age zones separately.
Picnic & BBQ:
Gather at gas barbecues and picnic tables under shelters by the riverbank.
Tip: Bring marshmallows to roast and refill bottles at nearby water bubblers.
Scooter & Bike Ride:
Ride or scoot along the smooth 1 km path to Point Cartwright lighthouse lookout.
Tip: Pack helmets for all and let older kids clock extra distance to the lighthouse.
Nature Scavenger Hunt:
Search gardens, boardwalk and river edges for leaves, shells and local birds.
Tip: Print a simple list in advance and reward kids with ice-blocks after each find.
Riverbank Fishing:
Cast lines from the bank or boat ramp and use the on-site fish-cleaning station.
Tip: Buy a one-day adult licence before visiting; let kids help bait hooks.

Great place to sit, have a BBQ, and watch the world go by. Great views of the ocean and across the ocean, Parkyn Parade Wharf and trawler boats. Good car par, running water, tree's for shade.

A lovely spot to spend some time with large grassy area and scenery. Boats at moorings, the mouth of the Maroochy, a short walk to the cliff top and lighthouse and views down to the surf beach.

Parks for the people. Well done, Sunshine Coast Council and (staff). This slice of the Sunshine Coast is so special. With the perfect backdrop being the marina and gateway to it, La Balsa Park offers a truly unique park experience. A variety of aquatic craft, coming and going, made our walk a little slower, stopping often to take in the views. Parking ✔️ Pathways ✔️ Playgrounds ✔️ Toilets ✔️ BBQ's...

Very nice open plan park, clean and dog friendly with clean amenities. Outdoor showers available, for washing off all that beautiful salt water you can access for an amazing swim. BBQ areas are also kept clean and are well maintained. Parking is ample, but can get busy as this place is exceptional to visit.
Summer mornings are coolest—visit before 10 am and reapply sunscreen. Midday playground surfaces can get hot. After rain, paths may be slippery; choose closed shoes.
