How Kids-Friendly is The Lorne Jetty?

Children can fish licence-free, spot seals and explore rock pools, yet parents must supervise constantly because of unguarded drop-offs and the nearest playground and toilets are 2 minutes away.

Considerations for visiting The Lorne Jetty (with kids)

Positives:

  • Pram-Friendly Access: The flat wooden jetty is easy to navigate with strollers.
  • Nearby Facilities: Public toilets and baby-change benches are steps from the pier.

Challenges:

  • Slippery Surface: Wet boards can be slick; supervise children closely.
  • No On-Site Shade: Carry hats, sunscreen and water; the pier has no cover.

Recommended visit duration: 2-3 hours

Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for fishing, rockpool exploring, wildlife spotting and a snack break at a relaxed pace.

Good fishing, but that's about it. You can walk out on the new jetty and there is a bit of the old jetty with some history plaques.

A decent place. I don’t know what but there was a weird smell at the jetty. Nothing much to see here, the only thing you’ll find would be people fishing on the jetty. I wouldn’t mind if this place was skipped from my next day trip to Great Ocean Road.
