How Kids-Friendly is Melbourne Park?

76%Kids-Friendly
View Map

What makes it 76% Kids-Friendly: School-age children can run in Gosch’s Paddock, take the child-priced AO tour and sit free on the knee under two, yet loud arenas and long lines during the Open may tire them quickly.

Positives:

  • Family-friendly facilities: Find parent rooms, baby-change tables, and pram cloaking across all arenas.
  • Free play areas: Gosch’s Paddock, Garden Square, and ovals offer safe spaces for kids to run.

Challenges:

  • Crowds during major events: Australian Open draws large crowds in January; expect queues and restricted seating.
  • Limited shading: Outdoor fields have sparse shade; bring hats and sunscreen for comfort.

Went on a tour through Open House Melbourne. Great to see back of house at Margaret Court Arena and go on the ground at AAMI stadium. Certainly recommend people looking into attending next year's open house weekend. Free to see many places you never see normally.

The home of the Australian Open this sprawling property has many large seated venues and smaller outdoor courts. The facilities are brilliant and the specific set up for the Open fantastic. The tram stops just outside. There is a bit of a pinch point getting in to the venue with bag checks and so on but this is a small issue and necessary. Once in there are cooling areas with fans and misted water...
