School-age children can run in Gosch’s Paddock, take the child-priced AO tour and sit free on the knee under two, yet loud arenas and long lines during the Open may tire them quickly.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time to explore play areas, take a behind-the-scenes tour, and enjoy a family meal.
Kick a ball on Gosch’s Paddock:
Open grassy field ideal for soccer, footy, or catch.
Tip: Visit early to secure a spot and avoid training sessions by local clubs.
Picnic in Garden Square:
Shaded lawns surrounded by tennis-legend sculptures.
Tip: Bring a blanket and snacks; no booking required.
AO Behind-the-Scenes Tour:
Guided walk through player change rooms, Champions Walk, and show court photo ops.
Tip: Book online in advance; children under 2 sit free on laps.
Tennis Lover’s Trial:
60–75 minute tour plus 30-minute public court hire and demo racket.
Tip: Secure your session slot via Tennis World a week ahead.
Family meal at St Andrews Beach Brewery:
Casual dining with a children’s menu and high chairs.
Tip: Reserve a table online on event days to avoid waits.

In Australian summer (Dec–Feb), wear sunscreen and hats for outdoor play. January events draw crowds—arrive early and pre-book tours. In winter (Jun–Aug), focus on indoor arena tours and free concerts. Spring offers mild weather and quieter lawns for picnics.

Went on a tour through Open House Melbourne. Great to see back of house at Margaret Court Arena and go on the ground at AAMI stadium. Certainly recommend people looking into attending next year's open house weekend. Free to see many places you never see normally.

Torvil and Dean spectacular. Amazing show. Great to learn about their 50 years together. Support skaters were amazing. To still be able to skate at their age is amazing. Sad to see them go however they will still be around the skating world. All the best guys you have truly been a 6!!

Once in there are cooling areas with fans and misted water...
