How Baby-Friendly is Hinchinbrook Island?

44%Baby-Friendly
View Map

What makes it 44% Baby-Friendly: Infants are allowed on the day cruise with life-jackets and shade, yet the island has no change tables, potable water or shelters, and rough boat rides plus wildlife dangers make extended visits hard with a baby.

Positives:

  • Infant-friendly deck: The cruise boat offers shade, stable seating, and life-jackets sized for babies.
  • Onboard facilities: The vessel has toilets and a sheltered cabin for feeding or changing.

Challenges:

  • No onshore baby facilities: Island campsites lack potable water, changing tables, and shelters.
  • Sea sickness risk: Rough conditions outside dry season can upset infants.

This is a great hike. Very challenging in the warmer months, with plenty of hills. Total elevation gain over the trail is 1500m. Well worth doing.

Best hike of my life! It was heavy but gorgeous, we did it in 3 days and 2 nights but wished we had longer. So many different sceneries in one hike. Bring light equipment. We took a lift with John from Absolute North Charters. John does his work with passion and was extremely helpful for us. The hike would have not be the same without John or the absolute north app.
