How Solo-Friendly is Kurrawa Beach?

Lifeguard flags, surf lessons, volleyball nets, long boardwalk and cafés give plenty to do alone, and buses stop nearby. Limited lockers and shade mean watch belongings and pack sun gear.

Considerations for visiting Kurrawa Beach (solo trip)

Positives:

  • Safety first: Lifeguards patrol from 7 am to 6 pm; always swim between the red & yellow flags.
  • Social scene: Group surf lessons and beach volleyball are great ways to meet other travelers.

Challenges:

  • Strong sun: UV index can be very high—reapply sunscreen every 2 hours and wear a hat.
  • Summer crowds: Weekends in Dec–Jan get busy; consider early mornings or weekdays.

Recommended visit duration: 2-3 hours

Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for solo trip: This duration allows you to try a surf lesson, play volleyball, stroll the boardwalk and enjoy a meal without rushing.

Nice clean beach. Got big buildings behind for a view. Approachable with public transport. Parking available as well. Can park for free in the surf club parking as well. Not crowded like Surfers Paradise. Got lifeguards. Waves can be big though. Sunrise looks amazing here.

Gorgeous beach away from the crowds but still with the awesome contrast of sea and big sky rise buildings behind. The beach is clean and quiet with lifeguards. There is parking right by the beach - which is free - and plenty of taps to clean your feet or thongs. Really can't go wrong here! Just be prepared for the big old waves that'll knock you right out.

Kurrawa Beach in Broadbeach may not be the safest place for a swim but it’s my happy place in this world. 💙 Beautiful sunsets, seagulls everywhere, nice reflections on the wet sands, wild waves… I love this place.
