Year-round lifeguards, shallow zones, adjacent all-abilities playground and BBQ tables suit 5-12s, plus surf schools rent softboards. Strong rips outside flags and no shady water play area need supervision.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: A 2-3 hour visit lets the family swim, play on sand, and explore the nearby park without tiring younger kids.
Safe swimming area:
Swim between the red and yellow flags where lifeguards patrol year-round.
Tip: Ensure kids stay within the flagged zone and always enter the water feet first.
All-abilities playground:
Use ramps, swings, and sensory play spots at Pratten Park’s playground steps from the sand.
Tip: Pack a change of clothes; kids can get wet and sandy on sensory equipment.
Beach games:
Play Frisbee, beach cricket or soccer on the wide stretch of soft sand.
Tip: Bring your own ball or Frisbee and a marker cone to set goals.
Picnic and BBQ:
Cook snacks on coin-operated barbecues and dine under sheltered tables.
Tip: Buy bread and sausages from Broadbeach Mall before arriving; take a drop sheet for sand.
Beginner bodyboard hire:
Rent bodyboards near the surf club for a fun introduction to riding small waves.
Tip: Choose a board size to fit each child and check wetsuit fit if the water feels cool.

In Australian summer (Dec–Feb), arrive before 10am to avoid peak sun and crowds, and reapply sunscreen often. In cooler months (Jun–Aug), water stays around 20 °C, so bring light wetsuits for longer swims.

A very quiet beach I enjoy a daily walk here to collect little seashells.

I love this spot. I had to share some drone shots.

Nice clean beach. Got big buildings behind for a view. Approachable with public transport. Parking available as well. Can park for free in the surf club parking as well. Not crowded like Surfers Paradise. Got lifeguards. Waves can be big though. Sunrise looks amazing here.

Gorgeous beach away from the crowds but still with the awesome contrast of sea and big sky rise buildings behind. The beach is clean and quiet with lifeguards. There is parking right by the beach - which is free - and plenty of taps to clean your feet or thongs. Really can't go wrong here! Just be prepared for the big old waves that'll knock you right out.

Kurrawa Beach in Broadbeach may not be the safest place for a swim but it’s my happy place in this world. 💙 Beautiful sunsets, seagulls everywhere, nice reflections on the wet sands, wild waves… I love this place.
