A large playground, flat wetlands boardwalk, ranger holiday programs and shaded BBQ zones give children varied, safe fun while parents find toilets and water within a few minutes’ walk.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Enough time for playground, bushwalks and a picnic without rushing young children.
Nature Discovery Playground:
Let kids zoom down slides, ride the flying fox and climb ropes among shaded picnic seats.
Tip: Bring socks for the flying fox and use nearby benches to rest in the shade.
Congwarra Trail:
A 3.1 km loop passing the playground, four picnic spots and gentle hills.
Tip: Pack snacks and refill water at Sheedy’s Picnic Area halfway through.
Sanctuary Loop:
Flat 2.1 km boardwalk around wetlands ideal for spotting platypus and waterbirds.
Tip: Visit at dawn or dusk when platypus are most active.
Koala Path Walk:
A 700 m loop through a predator-proofed eucalyptus enclosure to see koalas up close.
Tip: Move quietly and pause often for best viewing opportunities.
In summer start before 9 AM to beat the heat. In spring watch for wildflowers along trails. In winter wear waterproof boots for muddy paths. In autumn enjoy mild days and grazing kangaroos.

I think the info can be improved. Like where actually the platypus is and the koala. And the best way to see them. Understand this is not a zoo. But that's why we need guidance to enjoy the nature at its fullest. Well looked after national park with something for everyone. A huge range of walks for all levels plus lots of picnic areas. We saw 3 platypuses, a southern-brush rock tail wallaby and many birds. Very quiet only a few other groups around

Good fun over there with friends. Good walking spots and BBq options as well. Sunny day is the perfect day to go

A beautiful natural environment that is easily accessible and close to Canberra. There are bush land and bushwalks to explore as well grassed picnic areas and play areas for children. Highlights include the Sanctuary and Koala enclosure. I would readily return again and again to enjoy this natural wonderland. The entrance is being developed and once finished it will be a great addition to the area...

This is a wonderful place. The short drive from Canberra is well worth it. We saw Bandicoots, Wallabies,Kangaroos, Koalas, a wombat, and bunch of magnificent birds. The best animal we saw was a Platypus- all of these were spotted in their natural environment. Best time to visit is just before sunset.
