Picnic lawns beside grazing kangaroos, quiet boardwalks like Sanctuary Loop and sunset valley lookouts make the reserve a relaxing, inexpensive day date for active couples.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: A half-day visit covers key walks and a picnic without rushing.
Scenic picnic with kangaroos:
Set up at Dalsetta or Flints picnic area and watch Eastern Grey kangaroos graze nearby.
Tip: Bring ready-to-eat snacks and a picnic rug; arrive early to secure a peaceful spot.
Peppermint Trail stroll:
Follow a 1.8 km loop through eucalypt forest to spot wild koalas and native birds.
Tip: Wear sturdy shoes; check the Visitor Centre for koala sighting updates.
Koala Path walk:
Explore a 700 m loop in a predator-proof enclosure for close-up koala views.
Tip: Visit in late afternoon when koalas are most active.
Cascades Loop bushwalk:
Walk a moderate 1.8 km trail along creeks and small waterfalls.
Tip: Pack water and swimwear if you want to cool off at the cascades.
Spring (Sept–Nov) brings wildflowers along trails; winter mornings can be frosty—dress in layers.

I think the info can be improved. Like where actually the platypus is and the koala. And the best way to see them. Understand this is not a zoo. Well looked after national park with something for everyone. A huge range of walks for all levels plus lots of picnic areas. We saw 3 platypuses, a southern-brush rock tail wallaby and many birds. Very quiet only a few other groups around

Good fun over there with friends. Good walking spots and BBq options as well. Sunny day is the perfect day to go

A beautiful natural environment that is easily accessible and close to Canberra. There are bush land and bushwalks to explore as well grassed picnic areas and play areas for children. Highlights include the Sanctuary and Koala enclosure. I would readily return again and again to enjoy this natural wonderland. The entrance is being developed and once finished it will be a great addition to the area...

This is a wonderful place. The short drive from Canberra is well worth it. We saw Bandicoots, Wallabies,Kangaroos, Koalas, a wombat, and bunch of magnificent birds. The best animal we saw was a Platypus- all of these were spotted in their natural environment. Best time to visit is just before sunset.
