Couples can hike to the summit for views, hire bikes or ride the shuttle together, then share BBQ or craft beers at Handlebar; shaded seating and sunset vistas create a relaxed, active date.
Why 3-5 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: Allows time for a summit walk, a bike ride, a picnic and a café break
Summit walk on shared trails:
Follow the fire trails up to the old Mount Stromlo summit for panoramic views over Canberra and the Brindabella Range.
Tip: Wear sturdy shoes and bring water; start from the main car park to avoid crowds.
Mountain bike on single-track:
Ride any of the 50 km+ IMBA-rated one-way trails for a shared challenge.
Tip: Rent dual-suspension bikes with helmet and gloves from Cycle City Hire My Bike; choose a blue trail for a moderate ride.
Picnic or BBQ by the pavilion:
Use free public picnic tables and electric BBQs beside the event pavilion and play area.
Tip: Bring charcoal and food; arrive before noon on weekends to secure a table.
Relax at Handlebar café:
Enjoy craft beer, coffee, burgers and snacks overlooking the pump track.
Tip: Try the seasonal ale and grab a table under the awning for shade.
Autumn brings cooler rides and red foliage. In summer start before 9 am to avoid heat. Winter trails may be muddy after rain. Spring wildflowers line many paths.

Went on a Tuesday morning so nice and quiet. Great on-site facilities. Trails, skill parks and paths for all skill levels. Broke a thumb here in two places two years ago but it didn't stop me coming back. Camped nearby at Cotter campground which I highly recommend

Amazing MTB (mountain bike) riding tracks! This place has a few runs ranked from beginner to advanced level with huge jumps. Ideally, 5 of you take a vehicle up with 4 MTB. Then 4 of you ride down the mountain. Fun + excitement + huge reward to improve your skills & bravery. Thank you Canberra!
