What makes it 66% Kids-Friendly: Easy summit fire trail and 3.8 km loop let children spot kangaroos and learn bush skills, and picnic tables support breaks; yet no toilets, barriers or potable water mean parents must monitor, pack supplies and limit stay.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for an easy loop, summit walk and picnic without hurrying younger kids.
Taylor Reserve Loop:
Follow the 3.8 km gentle loop near Chifley Shops through woodland.
Tip: Look for kangaroos close to the path and take rest breaks on shaded benches.
Summit Walk via Fire Trail:
Hike the 2 km return trail to the summit at 856 m.
Tip: Use built-in benches to rest and reward kids with snacks at the top.
Picnic at Waldock Street Area:
Use tables by the main car park for lunch and play.
Tip: Pack a ball or travel board games to keep children entertained.
Wildlife-Spotting Treasure Hunt:
Create a list of kangaroos, magpies, lizards and wildflowers.
Tip: Give kids a simple checklist and a pencil before you start the walk.

Quite a decent hike to the top. I walked from Woden and it took an hour each way, 8k round trip. Take some water, which I hadn't, as there is none at the top.

Been hiking and running around here a few times on my holiday in Canberra. So many kangaroos, great views and an amazing hill if you like those things.

Good and easy walk, return trip is 4km from the entry on Sulwood Drive to the top of Mt Taylor. Plenty of car parking spots at the entry. Nice view along the track. Be aware that there is no toilet facility over there.
Visit in spring for wildflowers. In summer, go early to avoid midday heat and bring hats. Autumn offers cooler walks and crisp views.
