Kids can run at the summit, spot kangaroos and learn war history on the trail, and you can drive if legs tire; no toilets, shade structures or playground require short stays and supplies.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for a drive-up picnic, a short trail section, wildlife spotting, and breaks without tiring young children.
Summit lookout picnic:
Drive up to the summit car park and spread out at the picnic tables overlooking Canberra.
Tip: Bring a blanket and easy-to-eat snacks. Let kids run safely on the open grassy area.
Family-friendly trail section:
Walk part of the sealed 4.5 km Kokoda Track return trail.
Tip: Turn back when children tire. Pack water, fruit and energy bars to rest along the way.
Wildlife and bird spotting:
Scan the bushland below the lookout for kangaroos and gang-gang cockatoos.
Tip: Bring compact binoculars. Stay quietly at the edge of the trail for best sightings.
Family bike ride:
Hire bikes and child trailers from Lakeside Bike Hire to cycle to the summit.
Tip: Reserve e-bikes and trailers in advance. Wear helmets and follow the sealed road.
Summer mornings are cooler and less busy. Spring brings wildflowers along the trail. Autumn sunsets light up the city skyline. In winter, dress in layers for wind at the top.

Visited this place on a wet, rainy / windy day and was really regretted the decision as there was no shade or seating place. The view could be nicer if it's a clear weather, however not recommended to visit if it's rainy as you will not most likely to enjoy. Parking is available as there are parking spots. Unable to spot any toilets around.
