What makes it 79% Solo-Friendly: The single visitor can move at own pace along flat paths, photograph 60 bird species, chat with staff, and finish in under 2 hours; limited seating and small size may reduce depth for day-long outing.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for solo trip: This gives time to feed birds, explore trails, and photograph species at a relaxed pace.
Self-guided bird feeding:
Use your included plate of apple slices and mealworms to attract lorikeets, finches, and parrots.
Tip: Hold the plate at chest height and stay still to let birds land on your hand.
Species checklist spotting:
Collect the free “Our Birds” list and mark off any of the nearly 60 species you see.
Tip: Pick up the list at entry or download it beforehand to track sightings as you walk.
Close-up photography:
Capture detailed shots of birds feeding, preening, or in flight.
Tip: Bring a camera or phone with zoom and stay near perches or benches for steady shots.

Lots of beautiful birds to see and interact with - and we came just in time for all the baby chickens too! Included with entry are some fruit and meal worms for the birds - they love the worms!! If you tap your arm, some of the birds will fly to you :D Will definitely come back the next time we’re in Canberra again!

This is a small aviary packed with lots of native birds especially parrots. Together with your entry fee, you receive some bird food which attracts the birds who may choose to land on your person or feed directly from your hand. Each visit buys a time slot during which you can be inside the aviary. It is a lovely experience for most people. You have to book early as it is popular and gets booked o...

Great little walk-in aviary with a cheap entry fee and super friendly staff. Lots of bird varieties to see, and you can even feed them inside. Overall, such a fun experience!

A lovely experience to have. We have been visiting Canberra for many years but had never visited the aviary until last week. It was a great experience run by lovely people. Of course, you need to expect that the birds will literally flock to you because you have food (provided with admission fee) so you’ll need to be sensible when walk it around in there. It was a lovely experience for us.
In spring look for chicks and breeding displays. In summer arrive before noon when birds are most active. Winter mornings offer calm conditions and softer light for photography.
