What makes it 75% Couple-Friendly: Partners can hand-feed colourful parrots together and take close-up photos, but the compact, family-oriented setting and bird noise give little privacy for an extended romantic date.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: Couples can explore the aviary, feed birds, and capture close-up photos without rushing.
Hand-feed parrots and finches:
Use the included plate of apple slices and tub of mealworms to feed friendly birds up close.
Tip: Arrive at opening (10 AM) for quieter paths and hungrier birds.
Capture intimate bird photos:
Let birds perch on your arm or shoulder for unique close-up shots.
Tip: Bring a camera or smartphone and choose spots near the entrance for best light.
Purchase extra bird food:
Buy extra mealworms at the on-site kiosk to extend your feeding experience.
Tip: Ask staff for current prices and share the tub to interact longer.
Spot multiple bird species:
Pick up the free “Our Birds” checklist at the desk and tick off species together.
Tip: Turn it into a couple’s game to find as many species as possible.

Lots of beautiful birds to see and interact with - and we came just in time for all the baby chickens too! Included with entry are some fruit and meal worms for the birds - they love the worms!! If you tap your arm, some of the birds will fly to you :D Will definitely come back the next time we’re in Canberra again!

Together with your entry fee, you receive some bird food which attracts the birds who may choose to land on your person or feed directly from your hand. Each visit buys a time slot during which you can be inside the aviary. It is a lovely experience for most people. You have to book early as it is popular and gets booked o...

Great little walk-in aviary with a cheap entry fee and super friendly staff. Lots of bird varieties to see, and you can even feed them inside. Overall, such a fun experience!

A lovely experience to have. We have been visiting Canberra for many years but had never visited the aviary until last week. It was a great experience run by lovely people. Of course, you need to expect that the birds will literally flock to you because you have food (provided with admission fee) so you’ll need to be sensible when walk it around in there. It was a lovely experience for us.
In summer, visit early to avoid heat and see active birds. In winter, bring a light jacket as the aviary stays cool.
