How Kids-Friendly is Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary?

Children up to 12 can hand-feed kangaroos, watch raptor and sheepdog shows and use the indoor play area, plus change rooms and stroller hire exist, so it scores almost perfect at 95.

Considerations for visiting Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary (with kids)

Positives:

  • Family-Friendly Facilities: The park includes baby-change rooms, a parents’ room, and stroller hire on-site.
  • Scheduled Animal Shows: Daily shows like lorikeet feeding, raptor flight, and sheepdog demos run on a fixed timetable suitable for kids.

Challenges:

  • Walking Distance: Enclosures span 15 hectares; small legs may tire—use a stroller or plan rest stops.
  • Limited Shade: Some exhibits have little cover; pack hats, sunscreen, and refillable water bottles.

Recommended visit duration: 3-4 hours

Why 3-4 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: This time lets your family catch several animal shows, feed kangaroos, and enjoy breaks without rushing younger children.

This is a really cute little wildlife sanctuary only a few minutes from Brisbane. As it's name suggests, there are koalas here, along with dingoes, Australian reptiles and amphibians, flying foxes, parrots, and platypuses to name a few. You can feed and pet kangaroos and wallabies as well. There are photo opportunities with koalas, dingoes, tree kangaroo, and birds of prey. It takes a couple hours...

An amazing sanctuary featuring all the expected wildlife of Australia: koalas, kangaroo, emu, wombat, dingos, Tasmanian devil, fruit bats, various birds, and a platypus. Petted a kangaroo. It's a beautiful park and definitely a must see.

A very nice and well kept animal park. There are different areas and different shows for visitors to enjoy. Although we did not go to see any shows we enjoyed just roaming around, looking for the animals and briefly catching a baby Koala looking out its mother’s pouch. Getting up close with the Kangaroos was another highlight. If you don’t plan on seeing any shows 2-3 hours is more than enough for...

Been here a couple of times in my early days and remembering it was much more happening and fun then (OK that was like 20 years ago). Always a joy to be amongst the free roaming kangaroos and feeding them except when stepping on all the poop around the area. Seeing all the koalas get high was also comical. Sheepdog as always amazing and intelligent and wished I can bring one home. Gift shop kinda ...

Amazing place to visit, allow 3+ hours. So great to see so many koalas and native Australian animals including wombats, Tasmanian devils, native birds, reptiles etc. The free range kangaroos, wallabies and emus section is excellent too. We loved the dingos and barn section/sheepdog demo and the talks were really informative and well pitched. Lots of water points and places to get food which was we...
