What makes it 66% Kids-Friendly: Children are admitted and the venue sometimes hosts kid-focused shows like The Wiggles, yet sound levels, late finish times, narrow seating and no play or change rooms lower comfort for most under-12s.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for a matinee or early evening show, exploring the foyer and using breakout areas without rushing.
Book a Family-Friendly Show:
Choose a children’s performance like The Wiggles or other kid-friendly events.
Tip: Reserve lyric mode seats near exits for easy access if children need a break.
Admire the Art Deco Foyer:
Walk through the 1928 Karberry & Chard–designed foyer.
Tip: Point out the proscenium arch and take photos together.
Use the Breakout Lounges:
Head to the lounge areas off the foyer during intermission.
Tip: Visit early in the show to secure a quiet spot for restless kids.
Plan Snacks and Drinks:
Bring small, quiet snacks if allowed or buy at the licensed bar.
Tip: Check event rules for outside food and pack light snacks like crackers.

This place is quite nostalgic for me. First concert i ever went to was at this place nearly 30 years ago.... Spiderbait ... I had the worst ingrown toenails back then, but still had an amazing night, never to be forgotten. Glad to see the place still fully alive and pumping :) The nice fresh outside has given it a nice lift!

The lounge seats were perfect for the wiggles with my daughter!! So much space and so comfy! And a perfect view

First visit to Thebarton Theatre in many years on Sat 8 Nov to see the always terrific Bob Downe 👍😁🌟. Great show but the experience was completely ruined by the cheap, HIGHLY uncomfortable small plastic fold out seating. We were seated in the front "stalls" area. The seats were cramped together so tightly that bodies were embarrassingly squished alongside each other (we are not large people), ...

8 Mill upgrade but some things left untouched, including the tatty carpet in the lounge section. Nice new toilets though! Always a great venue with good viewing of on-stage performances.

The refurbishment inside foyer, main theatre and toilets are well worth the money spent. Seating was generous and the new interior felt more spacious. Thank you to those who advocated and lobbied for funding to make the restoration of this iconic musical theatre in Adelaide possible.
In summer, enjoy the outdoor bar area but bring sun hats. In winter, dress in layers as the foyer can feel chilly.
