How Baby-Friendly is Thebarton Theatre?

39%Baby-Friendly
View Map

What makes it 39% Baby-Friendly: Babies may sit on a lap but there is no dedicated nursing or change room, prams must be folded and stored, loud amplified sound can distress infants, so parents face practical challenges despite entry being allowed.

Google
Reviews4.4/ 5
(from 1,512 reviews)

Positives:

  • Baby-on-lap policy: Most shows allow infants under 12 months on laps free of charge. Confirm before booking.
  • Cloakroom storage: Free cloakroom for pram parts reduces carrying bulk into the auditorium.
  • Accessible toilets: Unisex toilets offer extra space for nappy changes and privacy.

Challenges:

  • No dedicated baby-care room: The venue lacks a changing table and nursing lounge; use accessible toilets or the foyer lounge.
  • Narrow auditorium aisles: You must fold and store strollers; moving with a baby in tight aisles can be tricky.
  • No on-site parking: Street parking can fill up; consider public transport or rideshare to avoid long walks.

This place is quite nostalgic for me. First concert i ever went to was at this place nearly 30 years ago.... Spiderbait ... I had the worst ingrown toenails back then, but still had an amazing night, never to be forgotten. Glad to see the place still fully alive and pumping :) The nice fresh outside has given it a nice lift!

First visit to Thebarton Theatre in many years on Sat 8 Nov to see the always terrific Bob Downe 👍😁🌟. Great show but the experience was completely ruined by the cheap, HIGHLY uncomfortable small plastic fold out seating. We were seated in the front "stalls" area. The seats were cramped together so tightly that bodies were embarrassingly squished alongside each other (we are not large people), ...

8 Mill upgrade but some things left untouched, including the tatty carpet in the lounge section. Nice new toilets though! Always a great venue with good viewing of on-stage performances.

The refurbishment inside foyer, main theatre and toilets are well worth the money spent. Seating was generous and the new interior felt more spacious. Thank you to those who advocated and lobbied for funding to make the restoration of this iconic musical theatre in Adelaide possible.
