What makes it 59% Kids-Friendly: Tide pools and short loops fascinate children, but every ledge is unguarded and rogue waves occur, so adults must hold hands constantly. No toilets, water, shade, or playground limits visit length.
Why 1-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Enough time to hike, explore tide pools, and watch sunset without rushing.
Sunset Cliffs Short Loop:
Easy 0.6-mile loop with flat sections and cliff-top viewpoints.
Tip: Bring water and snacks; hold kids’ hands near edges.
Tide-pool Exploration:
Search rocky pools for sea stars, crabs, and barnacles at low tide.
Tip: Check tide charts, wear closed-toe water shoes, supervise kids on slippery rocks.
Bluff-top Picnic:
Set up a blanket on a flat rock or grassy patch with Pacific views.
Tip: Choose a spot back from the edge and pack a small blanket or low chairs.
Sunset at Luscomb Point:
Watch the sun dip over the Pacific from a natural overlook.
Tip: Arrive 30 minutes early, bring a low stool or blanket to sit on.
Park Trail to Small Beach:
Follow the 0.9-mile trail down to a sandy beach for play time.
Tip: Supervise kids in shallow water and bring water shoes for protection.

Fun Fun Fun! and Gorgeous! Do not miss the cave down by the shore, you can take some nice photos there. SCNP offers several trails that will take down the Cliff and to the beach but you must be careful not to slip. Please wear hiking shoes or at least Non/Slipping footwear. Be careful not let children run loose by themselves, hold them by the hand and make sure to tell them not to run or get too c...

Amazing views. We came here for sunset and it was incredibly peaceful. The ocean, the cliffs, and the sound of the waves make it a perfect place to just sit and relax. Watching the sun slowly go down felt calming and refreshing. A great spot to clear your mind, take photos, and enjoy nature. Definitely one of the best sunset places around.

Beautiful coastal park in San Diego. Tide pools (low tide), fantastic rock formations, scenic views. Parking can be a bit sketchy on the weekends in nice weather and it's Sam Diego so that is 300+ days a year but you can find a spot of you are determined. Wonderful time any part of the day but especially at sunset (duh) and/or low tide.

The dramatic cliffs, endless ocean views, and crashing waves create an unforgettable atmosphere, especially around sunset. Watching the sky change colors over the Pacific is truly magical and feels almost unreal. The walking paths along the cliffs are perfect for a relaxing stroll, takin...
