What makes it 74% Solo-Friendly: A solo visitor can study historic machinery, watch carving and music-roll demos, and ride two antique carousels, but the compact museum may satisfy only 1–2 hours of independent touring.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for solo trip: This allows time for the self-guided tour, both carousel rides, and live demonstrations without rushing.
Self-guided factory tour:
Walk through the Carving Floor, Paint Shop, Roundhouse, and Music Department to see how carousel animals were made.
Tip: Start at the Carving Floor for quieter crowds and ask staff to explain the carving tools.
Ride both antique carousels:
Redeem your two included tokens to ride the adult and secondary carousel.
Tip: Board just before the ride starts to secure your favorite horse or chariot.
Watch the Wurlitzer music-roll perforator:
See the only functioning Wurlitzer Perforator punch holes in band-organ rolls.
Tip: Visit on Tue, Thu, or Sat to ask if you can try perforating under staff supervision.
Photography and sketching:
Capture detailed shots of wooden animals, tools, and machinery through the factory’s tall windows.
Tip: Bring a zoom lens or sketchbook; morning light from east windows highlights wood grain.
Browse the gift shop:
Find hand-carved carousel animals, music rolls, books, and art souvenirs.
Tip: Look for small music rolls as affordable keepsakes and ask about limited-edition pieces.

Ian, the curator was great we had a large group and he projected his voice so all could hear him. Knows his carrousel history and makes the presentation very interesting with human touches as he went along. They are saving a part of history. The ride at the end was a blast, kids will love it well worth a visit if you are in the area.

I saw this place on YouTube and I knew I had to check it out. I had a great time looking around learning about Carousel history, how they’re made and even got to ride an Antique carousel. This place is absolutely fascinating and I learned a lot about the Herschell carousel company and all the rides and games made by them, including a delightfully twisted take on the striking machine where instead ...

On Thursday, July 24, 2025, my wife and I visited the Niagara Falls region. Knowing we’d be in the area, I planned a surprise for her, something to transport her back to childhood, to a time of innocence and simple delight. She had no idea where we were headed (I even had her cover her eyes as I entered the GPS coordinates), and the suspense only grew as we pulled out of the Goat Island parking ...

Very nice museum with a lot of information and history. Admission is only $9 per person. They had a big carousel and a smaller carousel for kids. They also have some other rides for kids. The employees are super friendly and knowledgeable. It took us approximately 30 minutes to go through everything and ride the big carousel.
Attend live demos on Tue, Thu, and Sat to see carving or music-roll performances. Check the calendar for summer-night events with extended hours and special rides.
