Positives:

  • Free core experience: All exhibits and rooftop scopes are complimentary.
  • Easy access: Elevators and ramps connect every level for smooth solo navigation.
  • Flexible pacing: Self-guided galleries let you stay as long as you like at each display.

Challenges:

  • Peak-hour lines: Telescopes get busy after sunset; expect to wait 15–30 minutes.
  • Limited planetarium seats: Shows fill up fast; tickets sell on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Tight parking: Onsite spots fill by late morning; consider public transit or early arrival.

One of the best views I've ever experienced anywhere on Earth! I visited on a Wednesday night in June 2025. It was fairly crowded, but well-worth dodging around people to see the views. The inside was amazing too, especially the working Tesla coil! I also enjoyed seeing the beautiful mural on the rotunda ceiling. On this particular night, people had set up high-end telescopes outside to look at th...

The view was beautiful from the roof of the observatory. You can see the whole city of Los Angeles as well as the Hollywood sign on the mountain. There is a telescope structure that you can carry in with no charge. You can see the telescope inside, and the roof of that telescope structure can spin, so the telescope goes through the whole roof, which is really cool. I would suggest walking around...

Griffith Observatory is one of Los Angeles’ most iconic attractions and absolutely worth a visit. The building itself is beautiful, with stunning views over the city and the Hollywood Sign. Inside, the exhibits are fascinating — from space exploration to astronomy displays — and the planetarium shows are excellent. Admission is free, but parking can be difficult, especially during busy hours, so i...

Totally affordable and worth a visit. The views are fabulous but the live show and educational opportunities are spectacular. It was well worth waiting for parking. The presenter of the show was adorable. He appeared super dynamic in his story telling and passionate about his work, and I love it. So glad we went back when they were open. Our first attempt it was closed due to a concert.

There is a scenic drive on the up to the observatory and once there the views are spectacular, especially at sunset. There were lots of people there but moving around was easy. There is a perfect view of the night sky with several constellations to be seen. The live show in the planetarium far exceeded my expectations. If you’re a fan of astronomy then this is definitely a place to visit when you’...
