What makes it 63% Baby-Friendly: A stroller fits on the paved path and restrooms exist, but there is no diaper table, no nursing room, and the roar plus spray may upset infants; rock stairs are a barrier.
Why 0.5-1 hour visit duration is ideal for with baby: Half an hour to an hour is enough to walk from parking, see the falls, and return without tiring your baby.
Catch the Rainbow:
Stand on the lower viewing platform to watch the mist form rainbows when sun hits the falls.
Tip: Arrive between 8:30 and 10 AM on sunny days for best rainbow chances.
Stroller-Friendly Falls Walk:
Follow the paved, level trail from the lot to the viewing area with your stroller.
Tip: Keep stroller wheels clean by avoiding mud after rain.
Riverside Picnic:
Use picnic tables or bring a mat near the riverbank for a baby-friendly snack break.
Tip: Pack a portable changing pad and a sunshade for comfort.
Sunny mornings produce bright rainbows. After heavy rain, expect stronger mist but muddy paths—check forecast and bring a towel.

Beautiful water pretty much in town. Can pull up and see it from different points near the parking lit or climb up some stone steps and view the falls and the river from above. Best first thing in the morning, very serene! Highly recommend, makes a great quick stop before heading over to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park if you're staying in Hilo.

We went in the afternoon. There was little water going over the falls but it was still beautiful. I was actually more impressed by the trees when you walk up to the top of the falls to the left. This is ideal for someone who wants to see the beauty of Hawaii without having to put on your hiking boots. There is parking and bathrooms. Free. But may be difficult to get parking in peak season

Quick stop to see a waterfall in the town of Hilo. Best to see rainbow in the morning. Can view waterfall from level ground steps away from parking lot or you can take uneven, natural rock steps to view waterfall from above.
