What makes it 62% Kids-Friendly: Children love spotting honu and exploring tide pools, but parents face no toilets, no lifeguard, roadside parking, and winter surf risks, so visits should be brief and closely supervised.
Why 2-4 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: 2-4 hours lets a family spot turtles, explore tide pools, and relax without overtiring kids.
Turtle Watching:
Observe Hawaiian green sea turtles resting on the sand near the shoreline.
Tip: Go early or late afternoon, stay at least 10 ft away, and follow volunteer guidelines.
Tide-Pool Exploration:
Discover small fish and shells in the rocky north end pools when surf is low.
Tip: Wear water shoes and supervise kids closely in the shallow pools.
Sandcastle Building:
Use the wide sandy area for building castles, playing frisbee, or kite flying.
Tip: Bring a picnic rug, beach toys, and plenty of water.
Kid-Friendly Snorkeling Tour:
Join Daniel’s North Shore Snorkeling Tour with gear and guide included.
Tip: Book in advance, kids 3+ join free on private charters; confirm meeting point.
Tandem Surf Lesson:
Try a 1-hour tandem lesson with Lani Nalu Surf Co for parent and child.
Tip: Reserve ahead, bring rash guards, and ask about age-appropriate boards.

We drove around on the north shore and ended up at this wonderful place where we saw tortoises. They were crossing over the beach into the water. There were a couple of on sight guides and helpers to make sure that tortoises were protected and we're able to reach the water safely. It was an incredible sight to see and our family loved seeing them go across and to the water. Totally recommend doing...

Too sandy for snorkeling but a nice place to relax and swim. The pillbox trail isn’t far so we did that first and got a nice panoramic view of the beach.

Very chilled beach. Many people come to see the turtles resting at the beach. It's pretty awesome and relaxing. Parking is limited, and you may encounter the "Turtle Traffic " as well due to the popularity. It is better to plan accordingly.

We arrived around 11:15, on a low tide, sunny day. and were honored to see 2 of the turtles 🐢 basking. parking is limited across the street. recommend going on a weekday, not too crowded. the water is clear, lots of rocks

LaniaLanibeach is such a beautiful spot! The water was crystal clear when we visited, and the beach had a really relaxed, peaceful vibe. We felt so lucky that day — we got to see a sea turtle resting right on the beach! It was such an amazing experience to see one up close in the wild. Definitely a great place to stop by if you’re around the North Shore.
Best turtle sightings May–Oct between 11 AM–3 PM. Calm summer surf makes tide pools safe. Winter brings strong waves—avoid water play then.
