What makes it 83% Solo-Friendly: A solo traveler can surf world-class waves, photograph turtles from the cliff lookout, and use free restrooms and showers, but must respect strong currents and limited swimming areas.
Why 1-3 hours visit duration is ideal for solo trip: This gives time to explore the lookout, watch surfers and turtles, and enjoy a picnic without feeling rushed.
Cliffside Surf Watching:
Walk to the upper lookout to see surfers and windsurfers riding Pavilions break.
Tip: Arrive early, use a zoom lens for close-up shots, and find a spot on the stone wall.
Turtle and Seal Spotting:
Watch Hawaiian green sea turtles and monk seals haul out on the sand.
Tip: Stay at least 10 ft away, bring binoculars, and visit during low tide for best views.
Tide Pool Exploration:
Explore shallow pools east and west of the main beach.
Tip: Wear water shoes, go at low tide, and move slowly to spot small fish and crustaceans.
Picnic at the Pavilions:
Use one of three covered picnic shelters with tables and grills.
Tip: Bring a blanket and snacks, claim a table early, and rinse off at outdoor showers afterward.

Great place to view turtles and to watch kite surfers. I only recommend swimming and playing here for seasoned ocean goers. Great beach to bring a chair and watch wildlife and people. I've been visiting for 12 years. Great place to visit with locals and get a real feel for Maui. I recommend parking at the lowest lot and walking up the beach to see the turtles. This helps with traffic congestion.

You can sit down and enjoy the view of the ocean with amazing surfers and also the best spot to find green sea turtles on the shore.

Great beach. The ability to stay up top or go down on the beach is really nice. There are showers here. There are lots of surfers and people who know where they are going and what they're doing. Still great to visit and just chill.

Good parking and nice to sit and watch the surfers. It’s beautiful to look at because of the turtles and the ocean! But it is not a swimming beach. And it is good for surfing only if you are a well-seasoned surfer. Lots of rocks at the shore!

Good parking, easy to walk down. We went just to see the turtles resting on the beach which was easy because there are a ton just laying there plain to see. Photos are good to take and the beach looked clean although we didn’t go on it. Not much else to say, but it is cool to see all the turtles just hanging out if you’re in the area.
Winter brings strong offshore winds and big waves—ideal for watching world-class surf. Summer offers gentler winds for windsurfing and calmer tide pools for wading.
