What makes it 63% Baby-Friendly: Lifts and ground-floor baby-changing support prams, yet dim lighting, tight corners, occasional loud audio, and no dedicated nursing room make lengthy visits with an infant harder.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: This gives time to see key galleries, watch the film, and use baby facilities without rushing.
Watch ‘A Nation in Arms’ film:
Short looping film on Scotland’s army history.
Tip: Use subtitles and stand back with the stroller for space.
Explore themed galleries:
See real uniforms, medals, and letters home.
Tip: Use the public lift to reach the upper floor easily with a stroller.

Quiet space with stained glass and carved panels.

This exhibit focuses on Scotland in war. There is information laid out throughout that is easy to follow. It is well laid out. There are stairs to go up to the exhibit but I think there was an elevator.

The National War Museum in Edinburgh Castle is a really interesting place to explore. The exhibition is full of powerful stories and artifacts, and the main hall especially stands out. Definitely worth a visit!

The National War Museum is in included in your ticket for entrance to Edinburgh Castle. It is worth taking your time in here, there is a lot of information to absorb. It was really busy the day I visited, maybe to many people in a confined space. There is an excellent souvenir shop as well. I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't feel I was being pushed along by the crowds.
UK Photo Journey
National War Museum is free when you buy ticket for castle because this museum is located inside the Castle boundary like other interesting points. The National War Museum it’s inside the castle area and you don’t need to buy extra ticket. It’s very interesting and mostly about the Scottish military and its role in Britain’s history but we liked it. There is a very informative video to watch on the first, the isles of the rest museum are narrow so can get very crowded. Be patient.
Visit October to March for fewer crowds and shorter waiting times.
