Positives:

  • Flexible pacing: Ticket lets you skip or linger at sites based on your interests
  • Multiple free inclusions: Map, museum entry, ramparts access and gun firing are all covered by your ticket

Challenges:

  • Uneven terrain: Steep cobbled slopes can be tiring; wear sturdy shoes and pack light
  • Summer crowds: Midday lines can form at ticket desks and narrow walkways

The castle was beautiful, but I must admit that visiting such places doesn’t appeal to me, as I’m not particularly drawn to history. However, those who appreciate it would certainly enjoy the experience. Tickets can be purchased online; I bought mine as part of a combined attractions pass.

Edinburgh Castle is huge. Lots of people, lots of photo opportunities and lots of hills, steps and walking. Take your time. If history is important to you, get an audio guide. If not, skip it. Be prepared to deal with crowds and waiting in line to see the Crown Jewels. Views are amazing. Get your camera ready…you will use it.

Great piece of history for Scotland and Edinburgh. Very historical and educational. Lots of museums to go through and see. Little cafe with a great view of princess street. Would recommend a visit.

Edinburgh Castle is an absolute must-visit! Perched proudly on Castle Rock, it offers not only a deep dive into Scotland’s fascinating history but also some of the most breathtaking views over the city. Walking through the castle grounds feels like stepping back in time – from the Crown Jewels and the Stone of Destiny to the historic Great Hall and St. Margaret’s Chapel, every corner is full of s...

The castle is so well presented for viewing from those who have very little knowledge of this beautiful building. There is a wide range of exhibits and places of interest to visit. I’d highly recommend getting the audio guide if you’re not going with a tour. Be aware that parts of the castle are steep and cobbled so challenging if you’re not have mobility issues. It is very beautiful though and ...
