What makes it 81% Kids-Friendly: Kids aged 5–12 gain from hands-on workshops, lively science shows, and free entry, but the absence of play areas and 2-hour tours that demand attention may exhaust them, slightly lowering the family appeal.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Enough time for exhibitions, a science show, and a workshop without tiring younger children.
Science Gateway exhibitions:
Explore interactive particle displays, CERN history, and Renzo Piano’s building design.
Tip: Ask a red-jacketed guide for child-friendly games and photo spots.
Lab workshops:
Join 45-minute hands-on sessions about detectors and the Big Bang for ages 5+.
Tip: Sign up via the on-site app upon arrival; families get booking priority.
Science shows:
Watch 30-45 minute live demos on matter states and particle detectors in English and French.
Tip: Arrive early to the auditorium and check the show times at reception.
Guided tours:
Visit the 1957 Synchrocyclotron and ATLAS Visitor Centre with expert guides.
Tip: Book at reception when Science Gateway opens; tours run every 30 minutes.

Very interesting place, plenty to see and the presentations are great. Very close public transport access so very easy to get to. However I tried several times to get onto the guided tours and wasn't successful. The tickets dissapeared as soon as released. Maybe I choose a day which was too busy

CERN is a very interesting place to visit and highly recommended. It's free. It is best to go early, as it gets crowded between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Everything is clearly explained and easy to understand. Take your time with the interactive games, as they are very engaging. I spent about five hours there and also had lunch on site. Access is very easy, as you can reach it directly by tram 18.👍🏻🤓

Visiting CERN in Geneva was an incredible experience ✨. The tour is very dynamic and full of learning, with clear explanations adapted to several languages. I loved the practical exercises and interactive activities that make even the most complex concepts easy to understand. Truly a unique place where science feels close and inspiring. Highly recommended!
During Swiss school holidays and weekends, crowds grow. Visit on weekdays and arrive early to secure workshop and show spots.
