The 11-km riverside path, art pieces, and safety patrols let a solo visitor walk, photograph, and join free festivals day or night without needing special facilities or companions.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for solo trip: Allows time to walk the full stream, pause for photos, and explore art installations.
Stream-side walk and photography:
Follow the paved path from Cheonggye Plaza to Dongdaemun, mixing modern art and historic bridges.
Tip: Start at Cheonggye Plaza to cross the stepping stones and capture reflections in the water.
Evening illumination stroll:
Walk after sunset to see LED-lit bridges and the Candlelight Fountain at Cheonggye Plaza.
Tip: Check the fountain schedule online and bring a light jacket for cool evenings.
Spot urban wildlife:
Look for herons, ducks and carp that live in the stream.
Tip: Visit on weekday mornings for better wildlife sightings with fewer people.
Explore public art installations:
Find sculptures like Claes Oldenburg’s Spring tower and under-bridge murals.
Tip: Grab the free stream map near Dongdaemun to locate each artwork.

Nice area to take a stroll or walk across the city without traffic lights. Sit by the river with food and drinks is also possible. Some parts of the river smells a little weird, but the sections 500m downstream onward are perfect and calm.

It's very tranquil, even the bustling of a busy city, just meters above the stream. Office worker on their way to work. People jogging and old folks just resting on the steps of the stream. If you are observing enough, you will notice wild lives around you. The stream is quite long, probably 3 km or longer.

Beautiful river canal that is very clean and a place to hang out and relax. The sound of water stream and birds was so wonderful. Great place to just rest and have a quiet moment.

A beautiful river canal right through the middle of the city. Very relaxing and serene. While we were there, there was a pop-up library with little seats and lanterns following the Riverwalk. A beautiful serene experience in the middle of the chaos of the city. Definitely worth a visit!
